Angelee Mini Notebook, Journal, or Diary

I’ve had the Angelee Collection from The Angel Company for a month now. I’ve been wanting to create something with it, but hadn’t found the time until today. This notebook was originally a boring, mini composition book. It measures 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches. It’s the perfect size for your purse or hand bag. I turned it into the darling notebook you see pictured here using the Angelee 12×12 cardstock collection, the Angelee Ribbon and a green Princess brad. That’s it! Oh, of course, I used YES paste to glue it all together and Pop Dots to adhere the tag to the front. I covered the front and back in the striped cardstock and the inside front and back cover in the lavender cardstock. The tag is from the coordinating tag sheet in the Angelee Cardstock Collection. The Angel Company makes it so easy for you… all the cardstocks, ribbons, tags, etc. coordinates with each other (all at an affordable price). The word ” Notes” was stamped with a retired stamp set from Stampin’ Up! This was a super easy project. The only time spent really was the wait for the glue to dry.

The Cat’s Meow Pink Notebook

I decorated this little notebook today. It originally was just a plain striped, spiral bound book with a brown elastic closure. It was cute by itself, but it just needed a little… something! I used the retired Stampin’ Up! stamp set Cool Cat. I used Burnt Umber and Boudoir Blush Palette Ink to stamp the images. The “kitty” white cardstock panel measures 2-1/2 x 3-1/8 inches. The “perfume bottle” white cardstock panel measures 1-3/4 x 1-1/4 inches. I dragged the edges of both panels in the Bourdoir Blush ink before I adhered them to the notebook. For some last finishing touches tied coordinating ribbon scraps to the spiral binding and added dashes of glitter to the cat’s crown, collar and the perfume bottle.

It has been over a week since I’ve been able to find the time to create. I’ve been itching to get into the paper, inks and glues. Alas, I’ve had other obligations. So this afternoon I sat down to relax and create. This is another journal made out of half of a composition book.

I can’t get enough of these journals. They are perfectly sized… approximately 7-1/2 x 5 inches… not too big and not too small. They fit perfectly in your purse or backpack. It is super easy to make. I cut the cardstock to size and paste it to the outside and inside covers with YES paste. I used a fine sanding block to remove any paper or glue residue from the cover’s edges once the paste has dried. (I usually let mine set a couple of hours.) I then dragged the edges in Charcoal Palette ink to cover any imperfections. I wrapped the gold organdy ribbon around the cover twice and tied it in a bow. I stamped the three words on the front cover in Noir Palette ink. That’s it… super easy!

Mom’s Notebook

My mother came to visit over the 4th of July weekend and I made this sweet mini composition notebook for her. She loves these little notebooks to carry in her purse to jot down notes. She went through my drawers of papers to find what she wanted and chose the Winchester 12×12 Cardstock Collection from The Angel Company. My mom’s favorite color is purple and she loved all the “aged” effects on the Winchester papers.

I measured and trimmed a piece of cardstock for the front and back covers. I’ve noticed that each composition book is sized slightly different. So the front and back cover dimensions will vary. The decorative strip along the left edge measure 3/4 of an inch wide. I recommend using YES paste to adhere the cardstock to the covers. I’ve found it to be the best paste for book binding and it can be used on a wide variety of mediums… paper, glass, metal, fabric, leather. It is very strong and gives professional results.

Then Mom had the great idea to embellish the tag with the colored diamonds. These little diamonds are on the bottom of each page on the label that you remove. She cut out each little diamond and I adhered them with Pop Dots to a scrap of cardstock and layered it on the tag. I also added a purple Princess Brad for a little sparkle and stamped her name with a retired mini alphabet from Stampin’ Up. We loved the final results. The idea to use the little colored diamonds that you would normally throw away was brilliant! Waste not, want not!

Escape Journal Contest

“Grandma’s Garden” Notebook

I love this finished notebook. I got this plain kraft brown and red cloth notebook from our local discount store. All it said on the front cover was “notes”. I liked that it included a pen and had an elastic closure, but other than that, it was very boring. So I had to dress it up and strawberries have been on my mind lately.

Indiana is winding up its strawberry season. So my family has had them at practically every meal… on waffles in the morning, in smoothies at lunch time and strawberry shortcake for dessert. First of all, I love strawberries. They are my favorite fruit. I have the fondest childhood memories of picking and eating them from my great aunt, Audrey’s wild strawberry patch. I still haven’t been able to find berries that taste as good as hers did. I’ll just have to keep looking. Secondly, this stamp is from the retired Stampin’ Up! set Nature’s Sketchbook. It is one of my all time favorite sets. So the read cloth on this notebook reminded me of red strawberries. I colored the berries with colored pencils, distressed the edges and mounted it to black cardstock. Then I adhered it all to the plain, store bought notebook. Hence, that is how this notebook came into creation.
